In the name of love

Fri, 04 Apr 2008 15:47:52 PDT
From birth to death, one is ever-learning, ever-growing. The collection of serendipity we call “the Internet” and “blogs” helps with this process–sometimes in a way that is, frankly, shallow, silly, a bit of mental fluff and floss, and sometimes in a way that makes you stop and go, “Whoa. I didn’t know that.” While OmegaDad was out of town, I indulged myself with a few-hour binge on YouTube watching ’80s music videos. I did Tom Petty. Queensryche. Bon Jovi. Joe Satriani. Dire Straits.

Energy Dept. solicits more oil for emergency reserve

Fri, 04 Apr 2008 15:48:22 PDT
WASHINGTON (AP)— The Energy Department said Friday it would continue putting oil into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve even as crude oil prices remain above $100 a barrel. The department announced a solicitation of bids for 13 million barrels of oil, with deliveries expected to begin in August, when the current delivery contracts expire. Oil will be put into the reserve at about 76,000 barrels a day, about the same rate as current deliveries, through December. Bids are due by May 13, the depar

Hillary Chokes Up Recalling Martin Luther King

Fri, 04 Apr 2008 15:49:11 PDT
From Fox News via YouTube: Mrs. Clinton simply can’t help herself when it comes to re-writing her history. Maybe that’s what she meant by the title of her ghostwritten autobiography, "Living History." Like the "Living Constitution" it constantly grows — changes.

Original Thought & Blogs: A Contradiction in Terms?

Fri, 04 Apr 2008 15:49:14 PDT
Perhaps because I'm in a transition mode or perhaps because I'm suffering from a dearth of new ideas (an unusual thing for me), a post that Mark Evans wrote a few days back has stuck with me. In commenting upon criticism of Gabe Rivera's Techmeme as a template for me-too bloggers, Mark articulated just why the blogosphere is increasingly a chorus of sameness. Original thought-provoking blog posts take "time, though and effort," Mark wrote. Many bloggers, even the A-list ones who have staff and

New Castle Crashers video and news

Fri, 04 Apr 2008 15:49:19 PDT
Filed under: News, Xbox Live Arcade, Videos We've seen Dan Paladin of The Behemoth create levels before, and here he is back again. The Castle Crasher's dev blog was recently updated with a video of Dan building the Industrial Castle level, as well as a few scans of OXM's pages on the game in their most recent issue. As with any demonstration of this sort it's amazing to watch the artist at work, and we're just glad that this has been sped up to a decent speed. Our only complaint is that there

Bearer cheques, not election results …

Bearer cheques, not election results … April 5th, 2008 Today we awoke to the introduction of two new bearer cheques. This was the state propaganda’s big news of the day, not election results as you would imagine. One cheque is to the value of ZWD25 million and the other for ZWD50 million. Today’s parallel market exchange rate (it changes all the time) is 1USD = ZWD42 million. A loaf of bread, when available, now costs about ZWD30 million but as usual there’s a catch: by the time you get to

Posted by loconet Apr 4, 2008 No Responses Del.icio.us Digg Technorati McDonald’s style menu Internet offerings in the future? I have been following the ongoing news regarding Bell Canada’s decision to throttle their reseller’s traffic. To those arriving late, Bell Canada owns the lines used by third party ISPs such as TekSavvy and recently decided to throttle bandwidth usage on those lines much

If you're going to exaggerate about MLK...

Fri, 04 Apr 2008 15:53:10 PDT
If you're a Republican presidential candidate and you've made up your mind to exaggerate something about the nature of your relationship with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., you're gonna want to do it the Mitt Romney way: Mitt Romney went a step further in a 1978 interview with the Boston Herald. Talking about the Mormon Church and racial discrimination, he said: "My father and I marched with Martin Luther King Jr. through the streets of Detroit." Of course, neither Romney nor his father marc

From Citizen Outreach: By: Chuck Muth SHOULD GIBBONS RESIGN? CityLife editor Steve Sebelius thinks Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons should resign. He lays out his case in brutal column this week, which you can catch HERE In a companion piece, Sebelius shares thoughts by unidentified Gibbons “associates and advisers” on whether the governor can be re-elected in 2010. For the record, I was NOT one of the unidentified sources of these comments – though I certainly agree with them: “Gov. Jim Gibbons ca

Butterfly rising: got 99¢?

Fri, 04 Apr 2008 15:54:43 PDT
I wrote earlier this week about the pro-life country song we need to help make a hit. Butterfly, by the band Bluefield, has a beautiful message that has already saved at least 3 babies' lives. Butterfly currently ranks in the 60s in the country music charts. It has met with some resistance by stations skittish about its message. I said it would help for you to call stations and request it. I got this news from Bluefield this afternoon: O]ur MySpace plays on Butterfly have DOUBLED since yo

Milwaukee Series Game 1

Fri, 04 Apr 2008 15:55:21 PDT
Milwaukee Series Game 1 by Jack Urban @ 2:55 pm. Filed under 2008 Giants Hoping to get on a winning streak, the Giants were blown out by the Milwaukee Brewers, losing 13-4. The offense continued to disappoint and not cash in on their opportunities, but once they get a big inning going, that should spark some performance. Giants starter, Johanthan Sanchez got lit up, continuing the Giants inefficiency to get through a first inning without allowing a run. He allowed a tw
